Berber Villages in Morocco

While staying in Marrakech, I would highly recommend finding a cab driver who will take you on a full day excursion outside of Marrakech to the Berber villages en route to the Atlas Mountains. For about 6oo dh (about $80) you can have a personal car and tourguide, rather than signing up for a cattle call tour they offer at kiosks throughout the city. On our excursion, we got to see rugged clay towns trickled across the stunning terra cotta mountains, stopped at a Berber village and met the artisans who produce special Moroccan oils and crafts, crossed a shaky bridge over a river, and ate lunch at the most picturesque and authentic restaurant. All in all, the day was a wild success, and it was wonderful to see another culture besides the Marrakech city locals.
